WILDFIRES IN LOS ANGELES

As we commence the new year on January 11, 2025, we are reminded of the hopes and aspirations that characterize each beginning.

However, the year took a tragic turn on January 7, 2025, when wildfires erupted with devastating force in southern California. The confluence of drought conditions, Santa Ana winds reaching gusts of up to 90 miles per hour, and prolonged periods of low visibility rendered air support ineffective in delivering water drops.

Our courageous firefighters were compelled to assume the role of ground crews in challenging and unprecedented terrain. The ensuing wildfires resulted in extensive acreage burned, numerous homes lost, and a profound loss of life.

These regions are home to a diverse wildlife population, and the plight of these innocent creatures during their struggle for survival deeply saddens us.

Residents also faced the difficult decision of evacuating their homes, often with the heartbreaking necessity of leaving their beloved pets behind.

Fortunately, organizations such as the Humane Society and other animal rescue charities provided invaluable assistance to those in need.

Other neighborhoods were also threatened and were under mandatory evacuations.

Amidst this historical tragedy, a glimmer of humanity emerged. The overwhelming majority of individuals demonstrated a profound desire to help those affected by the fires, and many found ways to contribute their support, even amidst their own personal losses.

I am deeply proud of our community’s compassion and empathy displayed under the most dire circumstances imaginable.

Our Pacific Palisades neighborhood bore the brunt of the devastation, and its recovery will undoubtedly be a protracted process.

Personal Note:

I grew up in the vicinity of the Pacific Palisades in Brentwood and attended Pali High School during my sophomore year. The school sustained significant damage and has since been closed.

Our Pasadena/Altadena neighborhoods also suffered a catastrophic loss, with homes destroyed and lives tragically taken.

I was born in Pasadena and am well-acquainted with the surrounding neighborhoods.

The entire nation rallied behind Los Angeles and its people, offering unwavering support through financial assistance, prayers, and expressions of love.

Thank You All With All My Heart ❤️
